Welcome to ABPW! Thank you for your interest in our organization. I invite you to learn more about us and about our contributions to the greater Clear Lake community. A brief summary is shown below; more details can be found at the links on the left side of the page.
Our group was originally founded in 1981 by a small group of women in the Clear Lake area; our original leader was Dr. Rosemary Pledger, the first Dean of the School of Business and Public Administration at the University of Houston - Clear Lake (UHCL).
Our five purposes are to:
- Provide an association to promote the business services and financial advancement of its members;
- Encourage and support the membership to serve in positions of civic responsibility;
- Provide fellowship among the membership;
- Become a political force in the community by supporting local, state, and national issues; and
- Provide leadership and educational guidance in the community.
We accomplish these purposes in many varied and fun ways! For example, we hold informative meetings with guest speakers, including many of our own members; we provide scholarships to students at UHCL; we serve as role models to teenage girls in a local senior high school through our "Lunch with a Leader" program; and we host social events to encourage fellowship amongs our members. We support several local organizations, including Interfaith Caring Ministries and Communities in Schools - Bay Area.
Our theme for 2009 is "Building on Our Success." In recent years, we have grown our membership and improved our programming, and in 2009 our goal is to continue that success.
If you would like more information about our organization, please contact us. We look forward to hearing from you!
